The figure in this youtube is Sree Narayan Guru of Kerala, India who was an enlightened master who belonged to the lower castes. He crusaded for the rights of the lower castes then and played a major role in their upliftment spiritually, culturally and materially.

He gave a lot of emphasis to Buddha and Buddhism , and wore yellow robes in remembrance and honor of the Buddha, even though he was a proponent of Advaita Vedanta.

For those who wished to take pilgrimage to Sivagiri ( where he had built a temple to the goddess Saraswati and where the headquarters of his religious institution resides along with his tomb and hermitage) he had advocated a ten day period of austerity and penance adhering to the Buddha’s Panchashuddhi. This ten day period would qualify the spiritual aspirant to visit Sivagiri.

Some great sayings of Sree Narayan Guru...

Be enlightened through wisdom. Become strong through organization. Become prosperous through hard work.

Religion is not God. It is just a means to enlightenment.

Whatever the religion may be, what matters is the improvement of the human being.

Acts that one performs for one's own sake should also aim at the good of other men.

The difficult becomes easy through practice.

Wholesome virtuous behavior progressively leads to the foremost.~ Buddha AN 10.1

If you do right, irrespective of what the other does, it will slow down the mind. ~ Rajini Menon
