As for the very most genuine of techniques for cultivation, there is a three-fold secret formula:

The first is truth. One is unable to be false. No matter what endeavor it is, in every case one must do what is true.

The second is sincerity. One is the most ultimately respectful and the most ultimately reverential. One is very sincerely earnest. One is not lazy and one is not careless.

The third is constancy. One is constant and unchanging. One is constant [and thus] far-reaching and non-neglectful.

In every single action, every single movement, every single word, and every single step one must possess these three minds of truth, sincerity and constancy. If one maintains these three types of mind in everything one does then in the future, one will definitely be able to have success.
A true mind and true intent bring truth within truth. True practice and true cultivation take the truth beyond truth. True behavior and true conduct add truth to truth. In everything and every way, be true, true, true. Master Hua

You don’t have to believe in me or believe in the Buddha. Believe in your own inherent wisdom. Discover the Prajñā in your own nature.
What is wisdom? It is a manifestation of selflessness. What is idle thinking? It is an indication of selfishness. Once selfishness takes hold, idle thoughts arise.

Ultimately, what is the Dharma? It is just our energy, our vital energy which penetrates heaven and earth to the point that all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are of the same substance as us because our energy is connected. This energy is like our breath; it can be detected. That which is within the energy and controls it is the Dharma. Therefore, it is essential that we nurture our energy; we should not lose our temper. You should cultivate your energy, as in the saying, “Foster the ground of your mind, and nurture the sky of your nature.” This is nurturing your energy. If you want to nurture your energy, then don’t lose your Dharma.
From commentary on Shurangama Sutra, chapter Eight.

Reputation, profit, wealth, beauty, fame, food, and sleep are things that worldly people like. When one is defiled by worldly dharmas, one cannot achieve transcendental dharma. When worldly dharmas prevail, transcendental dharma seems insignificant.

We need to be careful about our every thought. If every thought is virtuous, then our lives will be brighter.
