A snip from The Secret Doctrine II.95:
Each class of Creators endows man with what it has to give: the one builds his external form; the other gives him its essence, which later on becomes the human Higher Self owing to the personal exertion of the individual; but they could not make men as they were themselves -- perfect, because sinless; sinless, because having only the first, pale shadowy outlines of attributes, and these all perfect -- from the human standpoint -- white, pure and cold as the virgin snow. Where there is no struggle, there is no merit. Humanity, "of the earth earthy," was not destined to be created by the angels of the first divine Breath; therefore they are said to have refused to do so, and man had to be formed by more material creators, who, in their turn, could give only what they had in their own natures, and no more. Subservient to eternal law, the pure gods could only project out of themselves shadowy men, a little less ethereal and spiritual, less divine and perfect than themselves -- shadows still.

This Blavatsky News site is full of valuable articles, reviews etc. This one from June 2021 mentions some of HPB's best writings she did for periodicals, not in her books:

In Kapila's Sankhya Philosophy, unless, allegorically speaking, Purusha mounts on the shoulders of Prakriti, the latter remains irrational, while the former remains inactive without her. Therefore Nature (in man) must become a compound of Spirit and Matter before he becomes what he is; and the Spirit latent in Matter must be awakened to life and consciousness gradually. The Monad has to pass through its mineral, vegetable and animal forms, before the Light of the Logos is awakened in the animal man. Therefore, till then, the latter cannot be referred to as "MAN," but has to be regarded as a Monad imprisoned in ever changing forms.

There is frequent confusion in the attributes and genealogies of the gods in their theogonies, as given to the world by the half-initiated writers... Yet there could be no such confusion made by the earliest nations, the descendants and pupils of the divine instructors: for both the attributes and the genealogies were inseparably linked with cosmogonical symbols, the "gods" being the life and animating "soul-principle" of the various regions of the Universe. Nowhere and by no people was speculation allowed to range beyond those manifested gods. The boundless and infinite UNITY remained with every nation a virgin forbidden soil, untrodden by man's thought, untouched by fruitless speculation. The only reference made to it was the brief conception of its diastolic and systolic property, of its periodical expansion or dilatation, and contraction. In the Universe with all its incalculable myriads of systems and worlds disappearing and reappearing in eternity, the anthropomorphized powers, or gods, their Souls, had to disappear from view with their bodies: "The breath returning to the eternal bosom which exhales and inhales them," says our Catechism.

"Ideal nature," the abstract Space in which everything in the Universe is mysteriously and invisibly generated, is the same female side of procreative power in Nature in the Vedic as in every other Cosmogony. Aditi is Sephirah, and the Sophia-Akhamoth of the Gnostics, and Isis, the virgin Mother of Horus. In every Cosmogony, behind and higher than the creative deity, there is a superior deity, a planner, an Architect, of whom the Creator is but the executive agent. And still higher, over and around, within and without, there is the UNKNOWABLE and the unknown, the Source and Cause of all these Emanations. . . . .

Re: Key to Theosophy

Here is the online html version of Blavatsky's own key to the main features of Theosophy:

https://www.theosociety.org/pasadena/key/key-hp.htm

Here is her Preface:
The purpose of this book is exactly expressed in its title, "THE KEY TO THEOSOPHY," and needs but few words of explanation. It is not a complete or exhaustive text-book of Theosophy, but only a key to unlock the door that leads to the deeper study. It traces the broad outlines of the Wisdom Religion, and explains its fundamental principles; meeting, at the same time, the various objections raised by the average Western enquirer, and endeavouring to present unfamiliar concepts in a form as simple and in language as clear as possible. That it should succeed in making Theosophy intelligible without mental effort on the part of the reader, would be too much to expect; but it is hoped that the obscurity still left is of the thought not of the language, is due to depth not to confusion. To the mentally lazy or obtuse, Theosophy must remain a riddle; for in the world mental as in the world spiritual each man must progress by his own efforts. The writer cannot do the reader's thinking for him, nor would the latter be any the better off if such vicarious thought were possible. The need for such an exposition as the present has long been felt among those interested in the Theosophical Society and its work, and it is hoped that it will supply information, as free as possible from technicalities, to many whose attention has been awakened, but who, as yet, are merely puzzled and not convinced.

Some care has been taken in disentangling some part of what is true from what is false in Spiritualistic teachings as to the post-mortem life, and to showing the true nature of Spiritualistic phenomena. Previous explanations of a similar kind have drawn much wrath upon the writer's devoted head; the Spiritualists, like too many others, preferring to believe what is pleasant rather than what is true, and becoming very angry with anyone who destroys an agreeable delusion. For the past year Theosophy has been the target for every poisoned arrow of Spiritualism, as though the possessors of a half truth felt more antagonism to the possessors of the whole truth than those who had no share to boast of.

Very hearty thanks are due from the author to many Theosophists who have sent suggestions and questions, or have otherwise contributed help during the writing of this book. The work will be the more useful for their aid, and that will be their best reward. — H. P. B.

Freedom as the keynote of spiritual living:
Deeply sensible of the Titanic struggle that is now in progress between materialism and the spiritual aspirations of mankind, our constant endeavor has been to gather into our several chapters, like weapons into armories, every fact and argument that can be used to aid the latter in defeating the former. Sickly and deformed child as it now is, the materialism of To-Day is born of the brutal Yesterday. Unless its growth is arrested, it may become our master. It is the bastard progeny of the French Revolution and its reaction against ages of religious bigotry and repression. To prevent the crushing of these spiritual aspirations, the blighting of these hopes, and the deadening of that intuition which teaches us of a God and a hereafter, we must show our false theologies in their naked deformity, and distinguish between divine religion and human dogmas. Our voice is raised for spiritual freedom, and our plea made for enfranchisement from all tyranny, whether of SCIENCE or THEOLOGY.

An Omnipresent, Eternal, Boundless, and Immutable
PRINCIPLE on which all speculation is impossible, since
it transcends the power of human conception and could
only be dwarfed by any human expression or similitude.
It is beyond the range and reach of thought - in the
words of Mandukya [Upanishad], “unthinkable and unspeakable.”

To render these ideas clearer to the general reader, let
him set out with the postulate that there is one absolute
Reality which antecedes all manifested, conditioned,
being. This Infinite and Eternal Cause - is the rootless root of “all
that was, is, or ever shall be.” It is of course devoid
of all attributes and is essentially without any relation
to manifested finite Being. It is “Be-ness” rather than
Being (in Sanskrit, Sat), and is beyond all thought or
speculation.

We have no dogmas or creeds in the Theosophical Society nor in its work;
and thus it is that we have Hindu Theosophists, and Buddhist Theosophists,
and Christian Theosophists, and Mohammedan Theosophists, and Jewish
Theosophists, as well as other Theosophists who belong to no religion -
except to Theosophy as the Religion of religions. Hence it is our bounden
duty to cultivate in our hearts the spirit of brotherly love towards all
however much they may differ from us in philosophical and religious or
scientific opinions ; but while we are thus absolutely free as members in our
choice of religion and philosophy, we all hold to the primeval pre-requisite
of a Theosophist, which is a belief in Universal Brotherhood and an
adherence to the sublime ethics which Theosophy teaches.

Tomorrow, around 8 am Pacific time is Winter Solstice for the Northern hemisphere. Here is a 1950 article on the subject:
FORWARD WITH THE SUN!
by Boris de Zirkoff

The Winter Solstice season is with us again.

At this sacred and mystic time of the yearly cycle, at the mid-point of our century, we pause for reflection and inner appraisal.

The elemental powers of the outer world are feverishly at work to arrest or confuse the progress of the spiritual awakening of mankind, and their obedient emissaries and devotees prepare and polish the weapons for another human holocaust.

Yet the spiritual powers of the inner and invisible world, guiding the faltering steps of the human hosts, are gaining momentum and reach with their shafts of light into recesses never before illumined with the greater light of Truth.

The final termination of an historic era is close at hand. We hear its knell, echoed through the corridors of time. We see its ghastly shadows flit across the fields of human sorrow, as the gaunt spectre of materialism and brutal selfishness recedes into the gloom of bygone centuries, under the victorious pressure of the Powers of Light.

The bewildering confusion of human minds, the restlessness of human emotions, the inadequacies of human conduct, are but the natural reactions to the influx of new and unfamiliar energies to which the inertia of earthly man is unable to adapt itself. The Wind of the Spirit is blowing over the murky waters of human passions, and its challenging and invigorating power brings to the surface the dark and evil motives of men, so that they can be purged, purified and cleansed.

Thought is forever victorious over emotion. Reason - over blind belief. A man is great in proportion to his thought; so is a civilization. The thought-world of the Occident, apart from the rays of genius which have at times illumined it, has been based upon the worship of brute force, the exploitation of the ignorant and weak, the hypnotic stranglehold of ecclesiastical theologies, and the consistent denial of the spiritual factors at work in the consciousness of man.

The world of Oriental culture, in spite of its temporary downfall and its primitive ways in terms of Occidental standards, has been permeated by the currents of spiritual thought, and has embodied in its literature, its art, and its religious life, at least a portion of the sublime message left to mankind by the Sages and Seers of bygone days.

And the Orient is astir with a new life.

The question we may well ask of ourselves and of others is: Has the time come for the Orient to fecundate once more the barren and desolate fields of the Occident, with the life-seeds of a new world-conception? It has done so before. Will it do so again? Ex oriente lux!

The redeeming power for mankind does not lie in the political and economic schemes which for a time affect and discipline its outward forms of life. It lies in the thought-currents which outline a new and greater world-outlook, and manifest themselves in a faulty and partial manner in the institutions and social reforms built by the hand of man. Behind the mere forms is consciousness at work. Behind consciousness - the cosmic impulse to growth.

And when we turn our eyes away from the clash of mere outer forms, and try to perceive that consciousness at work - lo and behold! Like unto the Winter Solstice season, the Sun of the Spirit turns northward again, and rises in the sky of human aspiration, with healing in its wings!
