I joined very recently, but it seems that this forum has lost any steam that it once may have had. I see less than 1 post per day, sometimes none. What is missing here? I will soon stop checking this forum as I see little interest from anyone. Why so, moderators?

There were some comparative religion topics at our 2 main sister sites:

And then some of the topics were getting too heated and there were rules made that there should be no more comparative religion topics. Then this forum was created to provide an outlet for that discussion. But unfortunately, it turns out people don't want to do the heavy lifting so-to-speak, in getting a new forum off the ground, and this forum has remained very inactive. People tend to gravitate toward those forums that are already up and running, successful, and active.

We also created an engaged buddhism forum, with the same idea, to allow more politics and engaged buddhism discussion, but like this one, it is also fairly inactive.

I still see some comparative religion discussions popping up every once in a while, at the 2 most active forums and when I invite them to come over here -- they still don't come over.

I find both Dhammawheel & Dharmawheel are geared for those who are actively practicing either Theravada or Tibetan Buddhism. Both sites are mainly tedious sutta/sutra discussions and citations and are pervaded by religious dogma. Not for me. Whatever this site was purporting to be, it seems to have been drained of any life. A pity.

The forum definitely needs some enlivening and new members. I'll keep checking in and posting as long as it's around though. There are other comparative religion forums out there but they did to be big and wild and I like being able to discuss religious topics as a Christian with a small group of knowledgeable Buddhists. So I guess I'd like to see the forum grow but not explode.

There is another one, an Interfaith discussion site which I have visited over the years. But it also is v e r y quiet.

Conflict or at least animated back & forth is what seems to appeal to most. Avoiding boredom/craving excitement is a major driver for most of we humanoids. If a place or site or person or idea does not fill the bill of no tedium/yes thrill - then it is avoided.

Yeah I've noticed that too. There are some forums that are so big, that it becomes hard to navigate or you might make a post and have a hard to find it, as it has gone down to page 2, 3, or 4 in just a few hours.

But this forum is definitely very inactive. It would be nice to see it grow larger.

This is true, unfortunately. I've seen some hot topics at other forums with some participants getting very argumentative and then the traffic really spikes upward. And then when the hot topic cools off the traffic spike subsides.

one of my own personal rules about any humanitarian study is never give more credence and value to my interpretation of the study than the humanity it is meant to serve
